Whee! Got a new PDA!
Well I got a sorta new PDA. A Sony Clie SJ33 that someone had returned to the store. Looking over it it seemed barely used other than the previous purchaser sticking velcro on the back to put it in a case. The sales clerk was a decent one and opened up the box so I could check to see what was there as well as verify that the thing would actually run (still had a 50% charge on the battery).
On the other hand it was missing the handstrap (Like I was really going to use that) and the earphones. The earphones are the only real loss since the sony earphones come with a volume control on the cable. But I probably won't be using this very much as an mp3 player, so who cares when the missing items were good for nearly $70 off the list price.
TechTalk time: 66Mhz Dragonball cpu, has a separate sound chip to handle playing either mp3's or ATRAC3 recorded music (which means you can play music in the background or with the palm OS portions in sleep mode), takes Memory Stick's which look to be running cheap these days, and a 320x320 16 bit screen. On the down side the IR port is a standard IR port and not the enhanced IR that allows some Clie's to be used as universal remotes, and while it has a translucent flip-cover (you can see through it to read alarm texts) I'll still need to pick up a case to protect it against being dropped. Oh, and all this in something barely bigger than a deck of playing cards.
I do so like getting a good deal. :)
