Story: How'd That Happen?

This is to perfectworry's prompt to my January Bingo Prompt call.

This one is almost short enough to be a drabble. Okay, almost 50% to long to meet the hardline drabble length limit, but that's still quite short. I almost never manage that.

"I didn't know this really happened."

"What are you talking about?" My roommate came in and I couldn't help but stare. He had something greenish-gray and wrinkled in his hand. At a second look it was translucent and glowing. "What the heck is that?"

"You know how much trouble I've been having all semester?"

"Dude, this whole year."

"Right. Well I was bored and started pulling boxes out from under the bed. I thought I had a box with a six pack of Jolt."

"You're kidding. Do they even make that anymore?"

"I think so. There's still some on the shelf at the corner store back home. Anyway, I opened the box and this was in it instead. I think I misplaced my mind when I was packing."

"Right, pull the other... Huh. It does sorta look like a brain."

"So what the hell do I do with it?"

Well, obviously you need to find the Science! department.

Like that castaway, The Professor, who was clearly a Professor of SCIENCE!

Familiar with GURPS? One of the options for more pulpy/adventury settings is to offer skills like Science! Pilot! Mechanic! Where the exclamation point says, "Don't bother asking what field of science, or what kind of pilot, and what type of mechanical things this person repairs.
