An open letter to Pat Robertson
Jan. 14th, 2010 03:28 pmDear Pat Robertson,
Please never attempt to represent me on matters of faith, on matters of national pride, or on any other matter whatsoever. For if you had listened to even the slightest grain of true faith, wisdom, or empathy you would not have uttered those hateful, shameful, and Christ hating words. You claim to be Christian and to believe in God. May I recommend that this would be a good time to close your own mouth, to go into private as directed by your claimed savior, and there to beg forgiveness and ask for wisdom and empathy.
For, to borrow and gently modify a phrase from your fellow paleo-conservatives, when you act like this the devil wins. These words do nothing to advance the word of God and everything to aid that which is destructive of anything humanly or spiritually good.

Date: 2010-01-14 11:24 pm (UTC)It's sad to see how many miss such bits of wisdom that a Christian ought to know such as... Oh, the ever classic Thou Shalt Not Lie (How they can get so stressed over whether or not the ten commandments are displayed in courtrooms or classrooms, yet forget about them the rest of the time).
I make no claim of being perfect. No human is perfect, particularly not me. But I like to think I do reasonably well at the basics. Heck, I manage to follow Wheaton's law (Don't be a dick) most of the time and that pretty much covers a good chunk of the basics requested by nearly any religion.

Date: 2010-01-15 10:31 pm (UTC)I have no problem with the actual thinking varieties of Conservative and Liberal. The ones that seem to be playing to the other sides stereotypes on the other hand... Unfortunately at the moment both major parties (and near as I can tell) seem to be lead by people who consider anything other than parroting party platform (and who strive to have said platform be as extreme a view as possible) to be a vice.
