Oh Em Gee, Arr Oh Tea Eff El!
May. 1st, 2007 11:16 pmBoston anime fan creates an AMV with his reaction to the city's recent civic paranoia. Said AMV then wins the comedy catagory in at Anime Boston 2007.

[Bleep]ed Up Alchemist
Mar. 31st, 2007 09:52 pmOkay, so everyone and their kid brother and cousin's chiropractor have done Fullmetal Alchemist AMVs, but I think I like this one. F***ed Up Alchemist. "People cannot gain anything without sacrificing something. To gain something, you must present something of equal value... This is the principle of Equivalent Trade in Alchemy. We believed that was the truth of the world when we were young... But you know something... when you think about it... that could really **** a kid up..."
However for something more lighthearted (but a bit more naughty) here's an AMV that combines Slayers with the Toobular Boobular Joy song from Mystery Science Theater.
And for today's bit of knowledge. Here is a unit of measure you might not be familiar with. The foe. A unit of measure designed to make it easier to talk about the amount of energy released in a supernova.

An entirely too amusing AMV
Mar. 25th, 2007 01:44 pmInteresting how often gender identity issues seem to come up in anime. Speaking of which, here's an AMV made to scenes from Kyou Kara Maou and The Who's I'm a Boy.

Wandering youtube for AMVs
Mar. 11th, 2007 10:29 amSo I decided I wanted to search out one of my favorite AMVs and in the process came across a few new favorites...
Radical Edward Jam, setting everyone's favorite genius hacker girl to the DDR version of the hamster dance.
Radical Edward set to Gorillaz, another nifty one.
Radical Edward - Unusually Unusual It only makes sense to set a Cowboy Bebop AMV to a country song, and this one fits Ed perfectly.
Bingo! Cowgirl Ed - Larger Than Life one of Aluminum Studios AMVs and a favorite since the first time I ever saw it.
Why yes, there does seem to be a pattern doesn't there. Ed's one of my favorite anime characters. I even used her as the starting point for creating a character in a space pirate game. Simon Pepelu could be thought of as a male mad science version of Ed, and you have to be a touch mad to be safe as a kid on a pirate ship (whether the pirates were safe from him is another question).
While hunting down the Larger than Life video I came across some non-Bebop videos that are now new favorites.
The Beast and The Boy, an Aisha X Jim tribute. Once I've got some money again I really ought to grab the Outlaw Star boxed set...
Misaki and Hikaru are Larger then Life, an Angelic Layer vid to the same song from the Cowgirl Ed vid.
Dr. Gendo and the Mini Ikari's - It's a Hard Knock Life Dr. Evil crosses with Evangelion. That's not actually that insane and idea...
Spazzing All Alone, Smile.DK has done more than just Butterfly and here's the proof. A Host Club AMV set to Dancing All Alone.
Headstrong ~ Catgirl, a Mew Mew AMV to Headstrong by Trapt.

YMY (Yet More Youtube)
Mar. 3rd, 2007 08:39 pmThe tachikoma's dream of being heroes in AI Sentai!
Nightmare for some a dream for others, it's the singing catgirl maids of UFO Princess Valkyrie
Despite how often artists want to dress them up that way, Catgirls make terrible maids
However in Neko Nyan Dance we discover that catgirls and magical girls can in fact dance. (Oh and look, it's an original Chocotto Sister music video)
Speaking of catgirl addictions, oh wait you hadn't accused me of that yet? Anyway, watch acatgirl being drawn. D'oh, I'm not a catgirl addict, honest. Let's see, ah here we go, how about a sheep being drawn?

Nanoha AMVs
Feb. 26th, 2007 01:16 amThere are some fun Nanoha AMVs on Youtube.
I'll start with a wacky one. Nanoha Trinity which is a Nanoha/Dragonball Z crossover.
If you don't mind a spoilerific AMV then this one is a five minute flash through of the first and second seasons. You can actually get a decent idea of the first season in it, the second a little a bit less so. The opening shows Yuuno's brilliant solution to being beaten to the point he cannot even crawl much less stand up, "Hey! Perfect time to use the last of my magic power to transform myself into a ferret. And remain such for 95% of the series!" Yuuno, you're a furry in denial!
You can see an example of Nanoha's ultimate attack, Starlight Breaker, about two thirds of the way into this AMV. The nifty thing, if the wikipedia entry is correct then Nanoha actually has a decent excuse for not opening battle with her ultimate attack. The streaks of light converging on her staff are caused by the spell collecting the remnant waste energy of the previous attacks and spells used in the region as a power boost to the attack. So the longer the fight goes, the stronger the ultimate attack is.
Two with good editing: Nanoha Moondance using stuff from the second season, and [MAD][Nanoha][kotoko - fatally] using first season material.
I suspect this one is trying to look like another show's opening sequence. Couldn't say which, but it's nifty.
I guess I'll actually get some sleep now...

More youtube discoveries...
Feb. 9th, 2007 10:49 pmSpent some time random walking youtube tonight. Here are a few of the interesting finds.
Gundam Wing All Your Base A few spots in this one have rather nice edits for timing.
Ouran High School Host Club - I'm Not Gay Hehe, this one works really well. Some of the scenes from the show really play well with the Avenue Q song.
Bebop/Trigun/Outlaw Star do Trigger Happy One of my favorite Weird Al songs to three favored anime.
Speaking of Weird Al, how about The Anime Polka or Tenchi Muyo the Jerry Springer parody.
And Attack of the Show's Aquagate coverage. I'm not a huge fan of AotS, but I liked this. Grow a backbone media! And learn to do more than panic, like I don't know maybe learn to do research?

Crossover video fun
Nov. 4th, 2006 11:21 pmFound some more videos on youtube...
Steel Angel + The Chipmunks equals Kurumi and the Chipmunks. More fun crossovers. No Need for Tenchi + Flash Gordon = No Need for Flash Gordon. Both of these AMV's have some nice timing. Ayeka as the female villain, Washu as a science news commentator, and Ryoko gets to utter one of the famous lines. Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny + Anime = Ultimate Anime. Also fun is one that mixes a few anime and Japanese CRPG motifs to make, The Wizard of Ozaka, wherein Osaka, Luffy, Alphonse Elric, and Kon, set off to find the Wizard in Neo Ozaka-3...
