Steam cleaners

Tapping into the local hive mind I ask, do any of you own steam (yeah, I know they aren't really using steam) cleaners. I have been finding myself looking at everything from those little Bissell Spotbots to the full size uprights. What's really attractive is that some of them can be used on linoleum us well as carpets (goodbye mop! hurrah!).

But, neither I nor my parents have one. So, any of you out there used one before? Are they worth it, or should I flee to another part of the stores?

We have one (Hoover, mid-range, paid about $160 for it) and it's been more than worth it. As many people as we have over, our carpets need extra care, and this really does make a difference. If you don't have pets with annoying habits, and if you don't have lots of people over, it may make more sense to occasionally rent a Rug Doctor.
