Day 8 – Write a scene as a cat
Darkness. The dark was frightening. But somehow something warm and rumbling to his side gave a sense of safety. He felt so weak, so tired, it was hard to think. The soft, rumbling, warmth seemed the only thing that mattered.
He couldn't say how much time had passed before he started remembering. A flash of light in one moment a scrap of a word in the next. A fight. Someone dared to challenge him! The warmth enveloped him and he slept again despite his anger.
His anger was still there when he woke again. No longer the sharp, hot flash of anger from before but instead a cold anger that struggled against the calming rumble of the warmth. Some sense of urgency pushed him to try and figure out what had happened.
A duel. But how? It was in his own tower. How? How had a challenger found him within his own walls? In an instant he remembered the entire fight. Each spell, each crumbling ward, until...
Ha! It worked! His enemy thought him defeated, but his greatest feat of magic worked! It was perhaps slower than he hoped but soon he would return and strike that meddlesome fool down. He would have to purge his servants and apprentices. A shame, but one of them must have betrayed him. It was the only way one of his enemies could have found him in his own ritual chamber.
Light came at last. His eyes finally opening. Now the fools would see what a body worked by the greatest of his magics could do. Laughing he looked down and froze.
That sound! This... No. This couldn't be!
"Ah! Master, you're awake!"
Looking up the greatest wizard in all of the Firestone Islands saw his oldest servant towering over him. The first he'd ever purchased himself while still living with his foolish, ignorant father.
"I see you still recognize me, good! Magus Tillian feared your mind might not survive in that form." His servants smile and all trace of humor disappeared. "Believe me when I say I truly would have been disappointed had that happened. You and I will be spending many, many more years together."
His angry cry came out a hiss instead. A smile returning to his servants face as he reached down, pushing his small body back to the sleeping form of the mother cat and kittens. "Oh, but I am being needlessly cruel. Rest Dear Master. I can wait a little longer still. It wouldn't do for you to be too weak to survive what's to come
"Like I said Dear Master. We'll be together for years yet to come." As the soft warmth and rumbling purr returned he slowly fell back into sleep's embrace.
