%@$*^!!! Stupid hibernate mode...
Aug. 3rd, 2003 10:40 pmForgot brain Friday and had Windows 2000 shut down in Hibernation mode. When I booted up this morning it was acting funny.
Note to self: NEVER USE HIBERNATION! Never worked properly in the past, why should it now.
Wrote off the frequent laggyness of the computer to something getting confused while it was in hibernation. Figured it ought to clear up on the next boot. Rebooting always fixes Windows, right?
Note to self: NEVER USE HIBERNATION!
Shut down to go outside and actually do things. Come back this evening planning to finally get around to updating Quicken. Hmm... Sure taking the BIOS a long time to find the primary drive. Ah there it's found it. Now to choose windows 98 or 2000. Like it's a choice, 98's never run stable on this box, pick 2000. Hmm... Where's the progress bar -- Huh, error message? Reboot.
Note to self: NEVER USE HIBERNATION!
Computer's reset and coming back up. Hah, not taking so long to spot the primary drive this time. Pick 2000. Error message again?! ARG! Okay, okay pop the Windows install CD in, I'll just have to tell it to repair the install. Sure it will wipe out all the settings but at least I won't lose the data. Hmm... What? What do you mean you can't find a Windows 2000 installation to repair?!
Note to self: NEVER USE HIBERNATION!
*sigh* Well maybe, just maybe if I reinstall Windows on a different drive I'll be able to pull the files off this one. Please tell me it's just that windows died and not something on the drive itself. Surely if the boot menu appeared that means the drive isn't actually dead.... *sigh*
