This a Flashfic based on a prompt from

Day 29 - Write a scene about a [person] and their [animal]
Working title: Girl and Fox
Setting: An unexpected trip back to Tanya's universe. And unlike the two other ideas I had for this one, this isn't a depressing scene. Heh, and I can't write one to this prompt without making it at least slightly a furry story.
Tanya reached over and ran her fingers through tan fur, rubbing the vulpine head and scratching lightly at the edges of suddenly drooping ears.
"Do you have to do that!"
Tanya laughed, "Yes, I do. I always wanted a dog. But first my parents said it wouldn't get along with the cats, PsyMinder hated them, and the first few years after that we hardly ever even had time to think about it. But now we've got ourselves a cute little Foxy Pup."
The boy turned a glare on her, clearly having no idea how cute it was to see him fighting not to pout. "I'm not a pup, I'm nine years old! And my name is Reynard!"
"Aw, but you wanted tutoring and you seem to like learning about electronics. Surely this isn't too much to ask for the tutoring."
"But Foxy makes me sound like a girl!"
"Reynard's just another word for fox. Italian or French or one of those European languages. And face it, everyone else on this ship is a girl. Everyone's going to just think you're a tomboy like most of us."
"That's why I want that jacket."
"Kid, I wear a black jacket. You aren't saying I'm not a pretty girl are you?"
"Heck no! You're cute, but you're scary smart, an sometimes just scary girl!"
She couldn't help it and laughed as he tried to glare again. "Aw, flattery is going to get you far kid. But it isn't going to get you out of telling me what's wrong with that project."
"Oh, that's easy. Tried to trick me by putting all the other stuff in there, but it's just the battery." Reaching in with one claw tipped finger he popped the battery out, turned it around and pressed it back in place. A panel of lights coming on... all blinking red.
"Well, good to see you found the first problem. But you didn't really think I'd make it that easy did you?" Ruffling the top of his head before scratching his ears again.

Heh. Nope. Don't know where Tonya and crew picked up the kid. But they don't seem the kind to do a kidnapping so I'm sure they've got a good reason.

Date: 2011-08-02 01:05 am (UTC)Interesting note that bringing up the traveling band bit earlier reminded me of. In the Scooby Doo cartoons the original plan was for the cast to be members of a band. Which would have explained why they were traveling all around the country.

Hee, really? That would make SENSE.

And yeah, they were a band and apparently the mysteries were going to be more serious. But the network said no to the original pilot saying it was too scary for kids and to make it a mystery-comedy show instead. In redoing it they dropped the band aspect, without ever really explaining why they were always traveling around.
