Day 4 - A Hostage Scene
This one gave me trouble. My original fic was set in a shared universe from a forum I'm on. It was a much more traditional and straightforward hostage scene. With criminal hostage takers, hostages, and even a hero. I also didn't need to run a word count on it to see that when I finished it was way, way, way over the max length limit.
So instead here's why younger brothers should watch out when their older sister is put in charge for the weekend...
"Aww, come on Beth. I told the guys at school that I'd go out to the movie with them."
"Should have thought about that earlier. Now hold still. Becky's telling them for you."
"Ow!"
"I said, don't move! Unless maybe little sister would like to go tell her friends herself that she's staying home?"
I admit it. I can be slow sometimes. It took a few seconds pondering why she'd say that when Becky was already going and telling then before I got it. "What! No! No way! I'm not going out like this!"
"Then stop moving if you don't want poked by more pins.
"Can't I change back, I'll come back right after the movie! Promise!"
"No."
"I've been waiting all week to see this."
"Should have thought about that before you poured soda on your sister's laundry."
"It will wash out."
"Not. The. Point."
Becky skipped back into the room with a giggle. "I let them know you're tied up and changed your mind. Thought about telling them you were tied up in ribbons and silk."
"Don't you dare!"
"Jeffery Alan Jacobs, if you don't stop bothering Becky and talking back to me you had better believe Mom and Dan will hear about what happened."
"No! No! I'll be good!" Holding still again while Beth went back to work.
"Finally. This one's all done." Finally, I thought to myself too, but didn't dare say aloud. Sure I'd messed up a basket of Becky's laundry on purpose. Sure we were almost exactly the same size. I still didn't see how Beth decided that meant I should play mannequin as she put the finishing touches on three new dresses for my little sister.
I hadn't even noticed Becky had the camera until the flash went off. "Cute!"
"Beth! Come on, tell her to delete that. I'm cooperating, please--!"
"Jeffery, if you don't stop complaining not only will miss you movie but we'll all go out to your favorite Italian place for dinner."
"Huh. Don't you mean we'll go if I stop complaining?"
"I never said you'd get to change first."
I think that's when I figured out it was going to be a long, long weekend waiting for Mom and Dad to return from their reunion.
"Alright, alright. I'll be good. But, don't let her post the pictures anywhere, okay?"
"Behave and we'll see."
Forget long weekend. It was going to be a long, long evening.
