Meh. Meh. Meh^2.

Tried two. Not really satisfied with either. Posting both and moving on.

This a Flashfic based on a prompt from [personal profile] aldersprig and [personal profile] kc_obrien's 30 Days of Flash Fiction: Round 2 Meme

My 30 Days of Flashfic: Round 2 Index Page

Day 11 – Prompt: Write a movie trailer style trailer for a story, existing or not-yet-written

Two trailers. One for yesterday's Sacrifice, and another for the video game Magical Girl Apocalypse. I picture the narrator on both having Don LaFontaine's voice. But as he's dead, if any of these get filmed (hey, a guy can have unrealistic dreams, yes?) we can go with any of the guys from Five Guys in a Limo

Narrator: "There are many stories about battles."

The screen fades in from black to Earth as seen from space. As the camera pans we see a vast field of superheroes. Some flying in just the usual outfits, some in spacesuits, others in a motley collection of spacecraft. Mixed in with them are more primitive but clearly military spacecraft with American and Russian flags.

Flashes of light announce the arrival of several large alien spacecraft. The ships begin firing as soon as they arrive and launch multitudes of smaller vessels that weave through the superheroes attacking them as they try to stop the ship's attacks from reaching the Earth.

Narrator: "There are many stories about those who listen to their conscience and turn against evil."

In one of the smaller spacecraft from Earth a woman with fox-like features pleads into a microphone for the attack to stop. Subtitles translating her alien language.

A screen in the ship comes to life showing the bridge of a vessel crewed by her own kind. The subtitles translate the alien captain, "The Empire does not negotiate with traitors. Surrender, hand over this world, and your execution may be swift."

Narrator: "There are many stories about sacrifice. Stories of the lengths to which we will go to protect those we love."

One by one the alien ships are defeated. As the final one is engulfed in explosions a single missile launches. The woman we saw earlier screams a warning into the radio, but those who can reach it find their attacks stopped by a powerful shield. The woman and a man in the ship share a look.

The camera's view zooms out of the ship to the missile. The woman flies towards it with the man held in her arms. We hear him call over his suit's radio, "Now! Do it now it won't last long!"

He closes his eyes and a shimmering bubble appears, with the missile and them trapped inside. The woman releases the man and cups her hands, a point of light appearing between them, growing brighter and brighter.

Those outside the bubble have to cover their eyes or look away. When the light fades they look back to find the bubble fading away. Nothing left but a slowly spreading cloud of sparks.

The camera's view pulls closer to the Earth. Passing by bodies and wrecked ships, down through the clouds to a modest North American home just outside a city. The view comes in through a window as a chime sounds and a man looks up at the screen of a computer in the room. An icon of a watchtower replaced with the face of the woman from before. "Charles... If you are hearing this message, one of two things has happened. No matter anything else, know that I love you..." The camera moves through the house, into a bedroom where a child sharing the woman's features sleeps, then out the window into the woods beyond.

Narrator: "This is not the story of the fight. This story comes afterwards."

The camera passes through the trees in a blur of green until it comes to a clearing containing a new graveyard. The camera stops as it reaches the man, Charles, clinging to the child, wailing before a block of stone. A large gray man and another in uniform do their best to try and comfort them.

Narrator: "Life must go on. This is the story of life, After the Sacrifice."

"Ours was a world of science."

Fade in: an ominous looking lab. People working in hazmat suits, flashing caution lights, items picked up and carried with tongs, etc.

"A world of reason."

Wipe from previous scene to footage of an angry debate in the United Nations. Audio of ambassadors saying things like, "Our people will not stand for this!" "This is an act of war!" "This is madness, you will pull the world into fire!" overlapped by multiple translators trying to keep up.

"A world at war."

At the bottom of the screen is the text, "Sea of Nashon, EC 1958". We see the ocean below with peaceful waves. Suddenly jets roar across our view, wings heavily laden with with bombs. Suddenly streaks of neon blue light rain down upon the jets which are engulfed in explosions.

"A world utterly unprepared for their arrival."

Cut to: a fighter cockpit from the pilots perspective. A distorted radio call comes through, "Buccaneer Lead, be advised [static]" the call cuts off with a squeal of distortion. Another voice comes over the radio, "What the! Impossible! Someone's just standing mid--" up ahead a flash of light and a fighter in the distance explodes. Moments later the jet flashes by a figure in rippling robes standing on a glowing circle of light. A moment later the screen flashes to the same neon blue as the previous attacks.

"Not a single country was spared as they marched across the world."

Multiple cut scenes: A series of still frames show different areas of the world as people face off against the mysterious figures. Everything from primitive bows to tanks and fighter jets try to fight against the magic of the invaders.

"Our few victories came at unspeakable cost."

Cut scene: Soldiers in a city fight building to building, door to door, withdrawing toward the center of the city. Buildings collapsing in flames around them as a ring of the mysterious robed girls closes in. In a tent a general hangs up a phone and turns a key on his desk. He salutes the soldiers in the tent who return the salute. The floating figures surround the tent, then a bright flash. The camera cuts back to show the iconic image of a mushroom cloud rising where the city once sat.

"We lost."

In another series of short cuts we see people working fields and building castles among the ruins of the old cities. The mysterious robed girls watching over the laborers, striking down any who complain or even just for their own amusement.

"The believe they have won... But we haven't lost hope."

In a warehouse soldiers drill on one side with swords, spears, and other ancient weapons. On the other side of the warehouse a stern faced young woman looks over a table covered with maps and folders with pictures and notes on the magical girls. She shares a look with a gray haired man in a sergeant's uniform then points to a spot on a map. The sergeant smiles and nods while the officers at the table start calling out orders.

"Magical Girl Apocalypse: The Liberation of Arth. Coming soon for all major platforms. Including multi-player on iOS and Android."
