Another update on the fluffy guy's writing progress:

30 Days: Round Dos

• Prompt 13: Rewrite a story everyone knows: Picked a story and have a couple hundred words. I think this is going to be another long one...


• Prompt 15: Ascension: 976 words, about 200 more than the previous update. But about 700 of those are likely to get edited out of the beginning.


• Prompt 16: Write a scene at the end of a long road trip: I have an idea, still considering whether it is a good one.


• Prompt 17: Write an uncomfortable story: Talking With Her Father (and also on LJ) was posted last Thursday. I'm pondering a second story on this prompt in a different setting.

Other Writing

• A follow up to Sweet Iced Tea was posted since the update. Recovering (and on LJ) which Owen gets his request made to his Mistress.


• The Unquiet Past: My Terinu fanfic which takes place off stage from the comic and consists of almost entirely OCs. No change since last update. This will be continued. At the moment I am debating whether to continue on from where I stopped, or try actually outlining and writing from scratch. I may well make it my project for this years NaNoWriMo.


• Jayce & Izzy: No change since last update. I have a few ideas, but none currently on paper/electrons.


• Unnamed SF Setting: No change since last update. Same world as Jayce & Izzy, set unspecified time later. I did have one idea that was almost used for Prompt 10: A story in 3 time periods, which I might still write.


• The Tropey Not-A-Fanfic Not-A-Harem-Fic: At the moment just ideas. At least as currently seen it would be something written largely for amusement value and playing with tropes. I am considering fleshing this one out with some character and setting notes and seeing if I can get some actual story ideas to come to mind. Pondering seeing if this could become a serial item. Current view is comedic science fiction set in a present day + discovery that aliens do in fact exist (when they show up in a small Arizona town and announce they are setting up embassies and ready to establish trade).


• I've had vague notions of writing a follow up to the prior 30 Days story set in the sushi bar, but so far just vague notions. Also no change.


• A whole pile of vague notions some of which may eventually earn bullet point status. :)

Additionally:


I have a few paragraphs of an Addergoole fanfic, although they are likely just pump-priming that will be tossed out once the rest is written. Geek meets jock and for once the Law simply results in confusion, consternation, and some laughs (for others) rather than stomping all over the freshman students.


Additional additionally: Expect a call for writing prompts between soonish and the end of the week. In between classes so I've got a little more time again for writing.

Hey everyone, aldersprig is calling for writing prompts on the theme of Spooks, Creeps, Ghosts, and Ghouls (also on Livejournal). At this time there are already six stories posted, plus an incentive story being posted in parts.

I've put in my prompts, but the 24 hour window of opportunity is almost halfway closed.

As mentioned on twitter, as far as I'm concerned Barnes and Noble is going easy on DC Comics. Here is the situation: DC Comics has taken a number of titles and handed exclusive digital sales rights to Amazon. Barnes and Noble has a simple policy, if you have a physical book and also offer digital sales, then they will only carry the physical book if they are allowed to sell it digitally too. So Barnes and Noble has taken the titles Amazon was given exclusive digital rights to off the shelf.

Barnes and Noble isn't saying, "You must give us an *exclusive* contract." They are saying, "Sorry, but you can't give someone else an exclusive contract and still expect us to put it on the shelf." And unlike when Amazon got ticked off with publishers previously, Barnes & Noble isn't dropping the publisher's entire line, they've said they're going to pull those titles for which DC gave someone else exclusive digital rights.

So, if that last part proves accurate, then this isn't a scorched earth reaction like some people have called it. If it's a DC title for which DC has not given someone else an exclusive digital sales contract, then Barnes & Noble will still carry it. And frankly, when you consider how the market is shifting, that is why I say Barnes & Noble is going easy on DC Comics.

When you get down to it, DC Comics effectively told Barnes & Noble, "Oh go away, your sales aren't big enough to matter." So Barnes and Noble is saying, "Well, since you say we don't matter you won't mind if we hand over the shelf space to someone who does want to work with us, right?"

So, a kerfluffle? Yes. Rather messy business to now be having out in public, yes? A childish over reaction on Barnes & Noble's part? No.

Frankly, if I was a marketing person at Marvel I'd be cackling with glee at this point. That and checking to see how much of a budget was on hand to make a deal with Barnes & Noble to see the emptying shelf space filled with Marvel titles.

30 Days: 2nd Round

• Prompt 13: Rewrite a story everyone knows. Story picked, notes made, no story-writing yet.


• Prompt 15: Ascension Story picked, followup to Prompt 7 Frigid. Wordcount: 766, however, I think I started too early in the events of the follow up and will probably toss out about 700 of those words. But they won't be wasted since they'll get me to the words I do keep.


• Prompt 16: Write a scene at the and of a long road trip Still pondering this one.


• Prompt 17: Write an uncomfortable story Idea selected, no notes or writing yet.

Other writing

• A follow up to prompt 12 Sweet Iced Tea. 887 words at the moment. Currently opens from the POV of Fiona's father/Owen's master, who had effectively zero development in Sweet Iced Tea (we know he was in the room and holding a cup of iced tea for his wife... that was the grand total of development he had prior to this).

I've had a tab sitting open for a while to a language creation post Aile made, I no longer remember how I came upon that post as it dates back to July. Tonight however I started checking what else was posted and came across this: The Five Times Miri Stood Before the King.

Owen dreamed of pain. The pummeling he received the night before the first time he could remembered being sold. The time he fell after climbing to the apple he spotted after harvest. The belting he'd earned the last week for talking back at Mistress's son. He only realized he wasn't dreaming any more when he found he couldn't remember why he was hurting now.

Day 7 - Prompt: Frigid

Hmm. I think the combination of frigid making me think of winter and aldersprig's recent call for abduction story ideas made me remember this earlier idea of mine. Certainly the start of an idea, but I'm not sure where if anywhere it leads...

Osita trudged through new fallen snow. Watching the ground just ahead of him as he took each step. His mind growing as numb as his feet. On step after another, and then another. Walking long past wanting to stop. Wanting to rest for even a moment.

I shouldn't have kicked him.

Yelping as the slack on the rope around his neck was tugged, nearly dropping him to his knees. Simple fear all that drove his legs faster.

I really shouldn't have kicked him.
