Yeah, it's April. So?

Goals for the next twelve months.

1. Actually get all the recommended repairs done to my poor innocent car. (Ouch, estimate runs just over a thousand dollars for parts & labor. But should leave it in pretty good shape.)

2. Get the credit card paid down significantly.

3. Buy a guitar and learn to play it. I've been thinking about this one for a while. I'm leaning towards acoustic. (I also want to learn the keyboard too) I'm going to set aside a little cash at a time for that. Maybe use that as an encouragement to snack less, by deciding to take what would have gone in the snack machine and putting it in the guitar money jar.

4. Have at least ten more credit hours taken. That's under a credit hour a month. If I can't beat this goal I'm not doing well.

5. Still find the time to read.

6. Actually put together more than a place-holder web page.

7. Buy new glasses. Yeesh, these are starting to get a little... odd. Replaced the nose pads twice and both are held on with screws that aren't really meant for the job.

8. Connected to #3, learn to read music properly. I sort of learned it back in high school when I was in choral class, but that was *mumble* years ago and I've let the skills there get rusty.

9. At some point when I'm not using this laptop for a class in progress, do some modest upgrades and set it to dual boot XP and Linux.

10. Clean and organize. Really honestly clean and organize. Get rid of some of the stuff I haven't touched in years and maybe see the floor again.

11. Run through my Spanish CDs.

12. Draw some more. With permission to have it look like junk as long as I actually do it.

13. Write. Similarly I grant myself permission to count this goal achieved even if what I write is horrid trash.

14. Exercise more. Keep walking places even as summer falls upon us.

Rock gyms

I believe at least a few people I know have done some climbing at indoor rock gyms. I hadn't really thought about it much until an email at work mentioning a local rock gym in Tempe. It seems like it could be fun (even if they do insist on signing scary waiver forms, 'I understand rock climbing is like slipping a noose around my neck and won't sue if I die' seems to more of less be the translation of the waiver text), and a more interesting than just doing yet more crunches and push ups et al.

Anyone have some personal experience with it? Anything I ought to know?

I'll make videos and books of my new exercise program and get rich! It's simple enough, just grab three years worth of old phone books and carry them to the recycle bin across the street.

Oh drat! I just gave away the program for free!

The really scary thing? That was only half the old phone books. I even found a 1999/2000 book that escaped the previous purge.

Today I walked a mile and a quarter to get a simple plain hot dog and diet Dr. Pepper for lunch. Well, okay, and one single serving bag of chex mix. They recently put in a walking track that circles around the building, with each complete circuit being a quarter mile.

Four and a half loops, plus the walk next door and back. I figured I ought to do this before it started getting so hot that simply walking next door makes you lose a pound just from the sweating.

Maybe I'll actually meet my fitness goal this year (end the year under 200 pounds).

And why did I walk for lunch rather than drive somewhere (which really I only do maybe once or twice every other week)?

My car decided to give me a scare with the check engine light. Normally when that comes on it isn't anything serious and a restart or two will clear the light. Not this time. Fortunately my regular shop was nearby so I pulled in and left it there to find out what it was and get an oil change (way, way past due). Appears it was nothing but a loose wire connection. They only charged for the oil change. (Have I ever mentioned I don't bother with the dealership service center now that the service plan has expired? Can't imaging why not.)
