Title: Rhett's newsgroup posts
Fandom/'verse: Fenspace, what's Fenspace (TL:DR for those not following the link), sometime around 2006 a mysterious substance called handwavium is invented/discovered. Handwavium is liquid plot-device powered by intent, belief, and memes. Paint some on a car and you can get a flying car. Or a car that transforms into a bipedal humanoid vehicle. Or a car with wacky Inspector Gadget type equipment.
Summary: College student Rhett fell asleep mid-handwavium experiment and woke up to discover he'd accidentally dosed himself and was now a short and young looking catboy. These are a few newsgroup posts he made in the weeks afterwards.
Warnings/Triggers: Ought to be safe
Prompter: Random demifiction prompt made using An Owomoyela's demographics generator
Note: Mostly unedited. Inspired by other bits of writing I have for Rhett, but none of this is determined to be canon yet.

Hello out there, your friendly new Earthbound feline biomod here. I had no idea that newsgroups were still a thing or that there was a whole fen hierarchy.

Summary: Draft list of rules for a group planning to buy a PDP-1
Warnings/Triggers: Don't see any triggers.
Prompter: Random demifiction prompt made using An Owomoyela's demographics generator
Note: Mostly unedited

The following document is typed from a scanned copy in the Family Archives. Oral History interviews suggest it was most likely written in August of 1961. Before the year ended this handwritten list of proposed rules was rewritten into a contract (since lost, anyone who believes they have found a copy please contact the librarian!) and then in April of 1962 into the Manlow Farm Contract – the earliest ancestor of the current Family Charter.

Mrs. Toler,

I am pleased to report that since my prior letter Miss Mika's participation in class has been much improved. She had been reporting to class on time and listened to instruction. Miss Mika's performance in the recent gymnastics unit was impressive and I would be pleased to see her in next term's gymnastics class. You may wish to discuss the possibility of an Academy gymnastics scholarship as I believe she could earn one if she continues to put in the same effort shown recently in General Physical Education.

I am less confident about her desire to enroll in introductory swordsmanship. click to continue reading... )

To quote [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith demifiction is, "Demifiction is imaginary stuff written as if it were nonfiction. This includes such things as reviews of books that don't exist, fake movie posters, heroes' shopping lists, etc. It can be challenging to write but it makes a great way to stretch your creative skills, and a really fun way to explore your settings."

Some settings I'd like to explore further:
* That of Home At Last
* That of the Dragons on the Mind snippet
* Precedent parts one and two
* Whoa, I haven't done anything with Dragon and Princess since 2011 (Traditions and Falling)
* The setting of Sacrifice (I'm thinking yesterday's Discrimination is probably from this setting and not the one Tonya is in... Which means I have at least two super hero settings o.O)
* The setting of both Welcome Back and the Thomas/Jayce and Izzy pieces (two separate planets, but pretty sure they're in the same universe).

An Owomoyela's Bingo Generator page includes a list of potential demifiction forms. All that's left now is for me to start slapping these two lists together and seeing what falls free...

"Not that kind of discrimination dork."

"Then why do you call it that?"

Warnings/Triggers: Some use of expletives
Word Count: 562

Harry looked up. Clouds. Nothing but clouds and the ribbon that was the far side of the colony ring arcing overhead. Only the knowledge that he'd just checked five minutes ago and five minutes before that kept him from checking his belt for his emergency breathing kit.

"What keeps it in?"

"What?" Jack was squinting at him as if he hadn't been hitting Harry with questions all day.

"The air, their's no roof. How can we still be breathing."

Flann sat perched on the side table and watched the mysterious girl sleep. There were times being a feline moddy could be quite useful. Being presumed little more than entertainment in the form of living art made meant few in the household paid any real attention to him. Post One of my World Building Month project

Setting: The Unnamed/Lost Colony (Setting for the Jayce & Izzy stories, the stories set an undetermined period of time later starting with Hello, and Welcome Back which involves two entirely separate planets)

Faster Than Light Travel and implications thereof in the Unnamed/Lost Colony Setting

Welcome Back opens with the captain of the Williamson's Hope being informed they'll need to make repairs to, "the starboard array," or it will fail the next time they try to make an FTL jump. Clearly this array has been giving them trouble as he's informed that they used up the last of the spare parts the last time they made repairs. Tough luck, but since this is the first FTL ship built by the New Albany colony it's only to be expected that they'll have issues, right? But what's the biggest issue? The Williamson's Hope just isn't big enough. In a followup to Welcome Back which is sitting unfinished one of the locals comments that the Williamson's Hope is smaller than they thought an FTL ship could be built.

I posted my January Prompt Bingo card two weeks ago and have since written to six of the prompts:

I have one more partially written and have figured out where I intend to go with another. There are however two weeks of January left and plenty of time to leave prompts based on the bingo card squares. I've enjoyed writing to the prompts left so far, so even if I have some thoughts on where I might go with some of the unpicked squares, don't let that stop you. :)

Length: 149 words
Genre/Setting: Modern Weirdness

"I didn't know this really happened."

"What are you talking about?" My roommate came in and I couldn't help but stare. He had something greenish-gray and wrinkled in his hand. At a second look it was translucent and glowing. "What the heck is that?"

"You know how much trouble I've been having all semester?"

"Dude, this whole year."

"Right. Well I was bored and started pulling boxes out from under the bed. I thought I had a box with a six pack of Jolt."

"You're kidding. Do they even make that anymore?"

"I think so. There's still some on the shelf at the corner store back home. Anyway, I opened the box and this was in it instead. I think I misplaced my mind when I was packing."

"Right, pull the other... Huh. It does sorta look like a brain."

"So what the hell do I do with it?"

David had no idea what the college was thinking. Surely they couldn't believe such research would be tolerated even if the fools in the government dropped the ban. Who'd ever heard of someone being recalled to active duty just to have their vaccinations brought up to date.
